the anniversary

April 8 was a significant date for me. I left my country to work abroad exactly 22 years ago. It is also my wedding anniversary (church wedding, that is). To put it clearly, April 8, 1979 was when I exchanged my wedding vows to the father of my 4 children and April 8,1989 was when I left them temporarily to seek a greener pasture, so to speak. Which means, I spent only 10 whole years with my family and the next 22 years I've been away about 11 months per year. Which also means Ive been married for 32 years. Hah! Thats a lifetime already....

Today is the start of my new working contract to the institution where I've been getting my livelihood. Looking back, I thought I'd be here only for a few years to earn enough and then go home back to my family. But alas it did not happen. A lot of things transpired with my family that I could not just leave my work, the main reason is financial, as experienced by millions of expats like me. So here I am, starting my 23rd contract year, still doing the same job over and over again. But I'm not complaining because the fruits of my labor are as tangible as the sun and the moon above. Added perk is the fact that the world seems to be getting smaller because of new technologies, where communication is as easy and as fast as when we are living together in one roof. There's no more excuse not to get in touch constantly.

there's no time and space between people who love unconditionally........
